Warframe is a co-op, action, third person shooter that’s completely free to play and receives regular updates. It’s not like those scam “free” mobile games that lock content behind pay walls as all the content in the game is completely obtainable with only a time investment. People that wish to spend money to support the developers or save time can speed up the progress of building items, trading for items with other players or cosmetics.
Warframe is made by an indie development studio called Digital Extremes. They worked as partners with Epic games to make unreal tournament games. Digital Extremes also released a game called dark sector before warframe and it inspired the game we have today.
The developers at Digital Extremes are very community focused and have even set up live streams through twitch and youtube. These streams include platform focused streams like for PlayStation, Xbox and even Nintendo. On top of that they have a “Prime time” stream every week and a “Dev stream” every two weeks where they discuss the future of the game and updates to come down the line.
Since Digital Extremes is very close to their community, they listen to what their fans want. In their cosmetic store they have an entire section of frame(player or character) skins, weapon skins and more all made by the community called “Tennogen”. This is a system where the community sends in their own skin concepts for their favourite weapons or frame and vote on the best ones. The best community made skins get put in the game and this happens regularly. Digital Extremes even pays the artists and gives a cut of the money made from the skins back to the original artists.
Tennocon is a massive convention by Digital Extremes that is for all things warframe. The first one was back in 2016 and they have had one every summer since, even making it online during the pandemic.
Warframe was original going to be named Dark sector and the first gameplay trailer was shown at E3 back in 2005. Warframe was fully released back in march of 2013 and has been getting updates ever since, expanding the story and the world.
